We lived for over five years without a refrigerator. When we moved here in 1999, there was a Servel propane refrigerator here. For the most part, it was great. But we wanted to be independent as much as possible. So we chose to get rid of it and save for a refrigerator we could run on our solar system. I wrote about it in the post, Solar Refrigeration.
From SunDanzer’s promo:
“The revolutionary SunDanzer battery-free solar refrigerator is designed for true “plug and play” operation, eliminating the need for batteries and charge controllers. In most applications, 90 to 120 watts of rated power are all that is needed. During cloudy weather, internal thermal storage keeps products cold for up to 7 days, even in a tropical climate. The battery-free unit is designed to work optimally in locations with at least 4 sun-hours per day using a variable speed compressor and peak power tracking. For areas with less than 4 sun-hours per day, the compressors run on 12 or 24Vdc.
SunDanzer chest-style refrigerators and freezers offer low maintenance and an extremely efficient operation. A super quiet compressor and fan provide nearly silent operation. Other features include a lockable lid, a drain plug and a corrosion resistant, coated steel cabinet.
All SunDanzer cabinets are commercially produced by Electrolux, one of the world’s leading refrigeration unit manufacturers.”
This one appliance has improved our life so much! I can’t sing it’s praises enough. We put it in our pantry, my husband installed the plug and once that was all set up…….plugged it in! It keeps our food really cold and we don’t even have it at the coldest temperature. I am now able to purchase groceries without concern for whether I can store them or not. Not having to buy ice daily, and not having our food and containers dripping wet, as the come out of the ice chest. Love it so much!
I eagerly gave up a big corner in the pantry for the Sundanzer
! She is well worth the money and the space she takes. Next year, we hope to get the smaller SunDanzer freezer. Since there is only the two of us here, we decided we didn’t want a big freezer.
